i am a year 11 student in NSW almost about to enter year 12 and i keep hearing from my friends that it is illegal to get tutored by a teacher from your school, is this just a rumour or is this like a school policy kind of thing where some schools don't allow it but others do. please answer asap. thank you!

Legal or not, there is a perception of conflict of interest, if he is a teacher of your course/class. If this were the case, I think it is best for the teacher not to be your tutor.

the issue is..
are you paying them to tutor you OR are you paying them for extra marks (and tutoring is just a bonus)
