hey i got into arts(psych) with the intention of transferring into the b human resource management course after 1st semester. i picked arts(psych) because with the electives in the art degree i can pick the identical 1st semester as the b hrm guys, therefore making the 1st semester not a waste of time. the catch .... I NEED A CREDIT AVERAGE to transfer.

i know there is a thread talking about what units ppl are doing, but i was wondering if any1 knew anything about these units, as in it is possible 2 get the credit average. obviously i know i will need 2 work, but i ask because if a unit is really hard maybe i should pick something else, something i could get a credit in.

im doing PSY 104 (which i have 2 do), STAT 170, SOC 175 & MKTG 101

so any ideas much appreciated

thanks

Psy104 shouldn't be a problem (PSY105 is a little harder, I found.) Turn up, listen to (at least a majority of your) lectures, go to your tutes, and you'll be fine. No huge, hard amounts of work. Test is 2 hours for 120 multiple choice questions.

STAT170 was a bit harder for me; I'm not a very maths-y person (ie general maths in HSC) but passed... Make sure you understand at the end of each week - DON'T GET BEHIND if you're not confident with it, and you'll be fine. (As with most subjects, I suppose). Test is like an englishy-maths test... here's a context, here's the numbers, do these tests, show your working, write the results. A little difficult at times becuase you've gotta know not only WHAT to do, but HOW to do it.

MKTG101 is a fantastic bludge, in my opinion. If you've done Business Studies in high school a lot of it is common sense. Even if you haven't, a lot of it is common sense, in my opinion. It's a vague introduction to marketing, and you'll find you know a lot of it, or understand it just by looking at the notes - ie you look at something/read it and it's instantly understood. It's just a matter of remembering the terms, etc. ...don't remember specifically what the final test is.. there's a few multiple choice in-class tests, which are all about the recently-covered topics..

All in all they're not hard. Can't speak for SOC175, though...

Edit: From your choices, I think you'd have a relatively easy semester. Naturally, those things we're interested in are easier, so assuming you're at least vaguley interested you'll be right.

Yeah...just watch out for the stats. You can get behind really quickly, espec cos the material isn't that hard so u take it easy....if you're going for a transfer make sure u work your arse off to be on the safe side. :)

i reckon youll be able to get a credit average. your uai is good. And as GoodtoGo said, just work your arse off to be on the safe side. Just a Question, are marketing and SOC175 electives? Because its always a good idea to do electives that you will do best at if you want to transfer. Philosophy units are great for that too :)

yea they r. i picked them cause thats wat the hrm ppl r doing 1st semester

they r only offered in 1st semester and in the hrm degree u get no electives 1st semester in 2nd yr, so thats y i picked them so i dont waste time

does that make sense???

? I thought you needed a gpa of 2.0 (which is a pass average isnt it?) to transfer to human resource management? I'm thinking of transfering into that next year, or accounting...I can't make up my mind..

...yes, you need GPA of 2.0 with at least 12 CP to transfer into B HRM

Internal Transfer Policy is outlined on p30 of the handbook (2006 version of it, anyway); also available at http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/PDFs/2006/ug-general-student-info.pdf

yes to transfer to hr you only need to pass everything, but i was told at the open day (the one held in 2004, not this years) you needed a credit average

thankfully u didnt, because thanks to STAT170 my gpa was only 2.75 (it is now 3! yay :D)

PM if you have any questions about the degree, it shits over boring accounting

MKTG101 is a fun bludge, even for someone like me who hates rote-learning. Provided you can memorise about 80 terms and their definitions, you'll be fine - most of the major assessments (including end of year exam) is multiple choice. End of year has a case study, but barely anyone studies for that :)

SOC175 sounds like globalisation... in general however, first-year SOC courses (major generalisation here as I only ever did soc180 :p) really aren't too bad. Just make sure you read the texts, pay some attention in lectures, and PARTICIPATE in tutes. Even if stuff you say is wrong, you get an opportunity to try it out anyway. :)

I really think u should think twice before choosing accounting, its a very difficult subject, out of everything i did in the 1st year, accounting took the most time to understand and get it right

i concur mr steve, although i find aiming for a pass and avoiding fails easier than aiming for Ds

OMG! "accounting!"!!! IT'S THE ALL-TIME EVIL WORD!

Get it away from me! *cries*

^My advice? Only do accounting if you actually well and truly love it. I know I'm not much of a mathsy-person, but gawd... accounting has caused me more stress and "omg! I'm going to fail!" than any other uni course in first year... and I did the "dumbed down" version :S

Fornstar: I'll be doing a human resource management course next year (BUS250, I think...? Or maybe it's ARTS210, who knows...).

lol yeah my friend who does accounting now persuaded me that it really doesnt suit me at all.

It just seemed like no one else was choosing it for some reason, so it kind of put me off it which is stupid I know.
