Oh for fuck's sake that's the same alarmist rhetoric that gives the deniers fodder. You're as bad as the SMH the other day "THIS IS GLOBAL WARMING"

The fact of the matter is that all sea-rise estimates are effectively targeted guesswork because it is such a complex system.

Sea-rises are, to be fairly honest, relevant in the situation only to the degree which they affect the nitrogen cycle and the biosphere.
Oh, i'm sorry. I didn't know that quoting fact was concurrent with the use of rhetoric. I should check up on that. :p

And guesswork or not, these rises will eventually occur, at least within the next 30-40 years.

Seriously though, it is a good thing if sea levels rise

and if it causes the death or a few malnourished sri lankans, who cares?

Hope you were wearing your Ku Klux Klan robes when you typed that - it would have further emphasised your dickheadedness.

In contrast to our argument on my other thread, I agree agree with you here. People like this clog the forum and ruin it for everyone with a heart.

Video of Bjorn Lomborg, the only guy I really listen to when it comes to these things.

Ex-Greenpeace member and just an all around logical guy who faces things based on the evidence of the situation rather than breaking down into fits of histrionics.

I recommend you get his book: The Skeptical Environmentalist: Measuring the Real State of the World (Paperback) By (author) Bjorn Lomborg ISBN 13: 9780521010689 at The Book Depository
This is good, where do you even find these people?

Politicians aren't interested in the climate they're most concerned in regulation and how they can get more involved in our lives.

The dick they used to fuck the poor nations got a little smaller and they dick they use to fuck us just got a bit bigger and a little bit larger.

people people, none of us really care about sri lanka, unless you have like relatives there of something
tbh, the PACFIC ISLANDS are a bit more of a concern isnt it? most of them are going right now
its true australia really cares a bit too much about reducing emmisions and whatnot because we have about the same effect as all of the cigarette smokers in china which is a majority of their population, but what ruddy is trying to do is set an example for the rest of the world to follow suit, and hes trying to get as many of his UN buddies to do the same, ie. the US
sure nuking china into oblivion will probably save the whole world for many many generations but hes trying to do what he can with what time he has in his life, once the reduce emmisions train gets rolling it would be hard to stop by anything short of a world war
ruddy's being good with us too, not forcing us to get all the crap by providing subsidys and stuff which helps

.... sigh

Its not how BIG the country is it how HIGH IT IS ABOVE SEA LEVEL

countries which are really really big, where most of the MOST of the land is only 0.5 - 2m above sea level, or where some of the land is below sea level will get flooded very easily if the sea rises.

Australia has a fair bit of low level land and in certain places there used to be inland seas, ie now the area is bellow sea level. Australia could lose alot of land if the sea rises. But thankfully this land is just desert and no one lives there lol.

where as alot of Sri Lanka is mountainous, just look at a map and see. So ALL of Sri Lanka will never be under water. So i wouldn't worry about Sri Lanka.

and along those lines, I wouldn't worry too much about Tasmania as well lol

nuking china is not a solution, the reason why they have a huge CO2 emission, is because they hold most of the worlds population.

Why should they reduce their emissions when Australia contributes something like 1% ( not sure exactly) of the worlds CO2 emissions. Where there only 20 million people out of 6.7 billion live here?

but did you know in the world, excluding outliers like Quate we are one of the worst polluters

Australia's heavy reliance on coal makes for an average output of 20.58 tonnes of C02 per person per year, compared to 19.78 tonnes in the USA.

China, which recently overtook the US as the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitter overall, has a per capita average of about 4.5 tonnes per person.
Australians the 'world's worst polluters' - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

I am not saying they should reduce their emissions, they should as we are all in the same boat, but GLOBAL Climate change policies based on fundamentalist Nationalism will never work.

PS
by they way Quate or Dubai has the height per capita emissions of CO2, the reason is that 70% of the population are migrants lol.

imagine having a country were there is only one person and he is migrant and he breaths out... Emissions per capita.... Division by ZERO...... which generally means infinity.

^ it approaches infinity as the denominator approaches 0. a/0 has no real answer.

I personally don't think Australia's doing enough in regard to Global Warming. I'm extremely glad that Rudd's doing something. It's not just going to go away haha

yeh global warming is a serious issue, and it has negative impacts for the future generations of our country, BUT, people are suffering already within our country, due to the current finacial crisis. personally i think more focus needs to be placed on what is happening now. thats not to say there needs to be some devotion to global warming, after all it is a serious issue.
Oh bollocks people in Australia are not suffering because of the GFC we have absurdly high standards of living. This so called suffering is an insult to those Sri Lankan refugees and other individuals around the world who are truly suffering.
