hey i saw something on t.v about investigators going to UNSW and trying to look for anything related to kazaa.....

does anyone know anything about this hapening?

Probably warning to remove it etc etc....

The grounds would obviously UNSW can't police all their traffic, not to mention the privacy issues involved in policing it.

From what I hear, they'd probably find alot more at usyd ;)

I didn't say this..but last year in the ComSoc office at UNSW...there were literally gigs and gigs worth of divx movies on one of the computers
probably gone by now..

What connection does UNSW have anyway ? Do they have wireless avaiable for students ?

They have a wireless network yes,
but for computers hooked to the UNSW servers, its some very fast connection - faster than Cable/ADSL you'd get at home
Let's just say many people abuse bandwith..

You must also remember though that UNSW can see anything you do while logged onto their network, as with any other Institutional Networks. The SAs at UNSW, along with those at UTS and USyd can block any student account if they believe the student is abusing their network privileges. This includes, but is not limited to, chat programs (MSN, ICQ etc), Peer to Peer Networking programs (KaZaA etc) websites with illegal content ("Hot to build a bomb" etc) and anything else against their usage policy.

Plus, at CSE you can download all the Windows and other MS software all for free....legally! Not exactly music...but still free software.
