No, I think you have to know about him IF you want to use him as an example of one of the scientists who contributed to the understanding of evolution.

I agree with babydoll. you just have to know he was the guys who thought aquired charactereistics were passed on - long necks in giraffes and that he was wrong
uhm also on lemark...... apparantly i think he's not all that bad...... he refuted the creationism of the chirstianity... so yeah, sorta the pioneer of modern biology, altho his theory is kinda..... uhm u noe wut i mean ^^
