I dont plan to be one of those guys, i might use it in between breaks for recreation but i want to use most of it for keeping notes in digital form like i do for HSC.
Also i plan to be doing IT/Computer Science?

No-one really cares. Basically, if you watch porn and play games, it's your own learning you're affecting, no-one elses, unless of course someone's watching! In COMP115(MQ), we had about 10 or so laptop users, lecturer didn't care.

And yes, there IS internet is most lecture halls. It's hard to not go on MSN!

Re: Laptops?

Mystique, they are joking around. Yes you can use a laptop at uni - the usefulness of it depends on urself as well as the course u are doing. other students do not like it when you bring ur laptop and just play games/watch movies/msn etc because it distracts them.

Re: Laptops?

Laptops are good for between classes (it's not that easy to grab a uni computer when you need it most..) but difficult to take notes during lectures. They also lead to more distractions like games, music etc

Mate don't carry a laptop. It's like the geekiest thing you could do.
It's not geeky. It can be practical and helpful.

And who cares what other people think?

Your reputation's the most important thing you get out of uni.

You'll end up in the workforce and your colleagues or contemporaries at other firms will go, 'remember that geek in Class X? I heard Jen's working with him. God I feel sorry for her' or 'Guess what, I'm working with that freak who carries around a laptop! God I want to puke'

Hahahahah fuck me. That is the funniest shit I've read all day.

To continue, 'Yeah, I did hear that, James! Poor Jen! Maybe we should find the geek and beet him up behind the locker room! Steal his lunch money! Just make sure our parents don't find out otherwise boy will we be in trouble!'

Cos that's what the real world's like, right?!

When i see laptops used in lectures, they're always playing games/facebook/msn etc. There are only a very small % of people who actually use them properly. Plus with certain subjects they're practically useless - espeically with diagrams.

Hell yea man!! That's the real world!
Ignore the wise sage at your own peril because I love it when more noble souls fall.

Seriously they'll be like 'What an annoying freak. Let's shove his sandwich down the toilet every day so he has to buy another one'.

回复: Laptop for Uni?

*sigh*

Given the economic constraints of a typical university student you wouldn't want to waste your good money on a fucking Mac with less features for the same price.
