Is the 'lectopia' system any good?

Does it automatically record lecutres in the rooms that its set up in or does the lectuer have to book it to run (and prolly rarely does)?

Does it get used much?

Is it in many theatres?

Could u rely on it to save goin in to a lecture? i live a bit away from the uni and i was wonderin if it could save some time, petrol and money.

i think lecturer has to set it up to run and it's good however sometimes lecturers may give out handouts or draw something on another board which lectopia doesn't record

Lectopia is pretty darn good hey.

You can listen to just the audio, or have the audio and powerpoint being run together.

I don't know whether it is definitely used in all lecture theatres, but I know there's capabilities for it in CT202, GP1-1/GP2-1, Griffith Duncan and the McMullin Theatre (MCTH). All these seem to be the major theatres at the uni as far as I know.

I wouldn't rely on it 100%, as lectures being recorded hinge on whether or not the lecturer can operate it properly. But i'm pretty sure all lecturers get trained in using it these days. It's a program that runs, so there's no "booking" required as such. They just need to turn it on and have microphone at the correct levels.

What courses are you taking? This might give more of a better indication.

I've been doing Biomed since 2006 and only two of my courses so far have offered Lectopia. They were Musculoskeletal anatomy and Physics.
Both are huge courses offered for first years (although biomed does anatomy in 2nd year). In the case of physics, use of lectopia also depended on the individual lecturer.
From memory, the new biomed kids will be doing a new biomed-only anatomy course instead of musculoskeletal. Physics is only an option too (you could do psychology instead if you want).

Biomed is a fairly small degree. Our year was double the size of the previous year with around 90 students. Now, it has dwindled down to about 60 kids, and some lecturers have said they've had poor experiences with lectopia.

So basically, i've found that Lectopia is only really offered for courses with LOTS of students. Most biomed courses (especially as you reach 2nd/3rd year) are biomed only (meaning they're small courses) and thus dont really necessitate using lectopia.

The lecturers walk around all the tyme so u cant hear them. FFFUUU LECTURERS,

Plus, they cut out all the bits where the mature aged students yell at the class, so I can't lulz later on.
