the techniques i know off the top of my head are

metaphor
simile
alliteration
tone
themes
pictures
personification
anthropomorphism
perspective (1st,3rd etc)

thats bout it off the top of my head! (too much creative writing has damaged my brain)

Assonance - When a series of vowels in words sound the same - "How now brown cow?"
Connotation - "Words of similar topic" ? - "juvenile" "teenager" "kid"
Context - The time period of the text - An advertisement on a kitchen in the year 1910 is very likely to be different to one in the year 2010.
Juxtaposition - When something is deliberately placed in contrast to something else - e.g A scene featuring a rich man with a fine coat and tophat standing next to a virtually naked frail and starving boy.
Onomatopoeia - Sound words - "Bang" "Crash" "Splash"
Pun - Play on words - "We had a whale of a time !"
Repetition - Words repeated to place greater emphasis - "I'm walking! I'm walking! I'm walking!" (from Away by Michael Gow)

Persona: personal voice
Sibilance: repetition of 's' sounds
Oxymoron: contradicting terms
Antithesis: complete opposites
Rhetoric: asking a question and not expecting an answer
Apostrophe: addressing/pleading to someone who is absent, e.g. praying
Satire: the attack of vice of folly usually through humour
Irony: coincidence with meaning
Plosives: repetition of strong 'b' sounds
Accretion of images: building images upon previous images in the text

I tend to use exaggeration instead.

About Ambiguity ...

Ambiguity occurs when ther is mroe than one possible meaning arising in a text.
This may occur because of misplaced words, for example: They saw the man run out of the house who was wearing running shoes. Or it may occur because of differently placed punctuation, for example: When are you coming home ? Today ? as opposed to When are you coming home today ?

Enjambment - Where an idea continues on another line. Eg:
The dog
ate the bone.

Symbolism - Something that represents something else

Rhyme - Words with similar sound
