Colin Barnett is the next premier of Western Australia

The Nationals have decided to support the Liberals.

Wall to Wall Labor is over.

Well it was somewhat inevitable - I don't think they would have dared to go with Labor in the end - but they made us sweat it a bit.

Nationals, Libs to form govt in WA

New government will also have a majority in the Legislative Council.
An ALP-Nat gov would have needed greens support to pass anything. Would have been a completely unworkable situation.

Assembly is looking like ALP 27, Lib 24, Nat 4, Ind 4.

Hahaha but local council elections mean I get to talk to old people and hear such lines as: "When I was your age they gave me a gun and said 'Go on, shoot some Japs'"

Hahaha a succession of secession referendums in Liberal won states would be fucking amazing, if not binding without the ratification of the House of Commons...

My highlight was this 70ish woman who came to take How-to-votes, with this T-shirt which had "Abortion is a deadly sin" written across the front. I wondered if I should even bother offering her something from Labor, but then figured the possible entertainment value was too high for me not to.

So I gave her the paper. She looked at it, pointed at the photo of the councillor on it and said "Is he a good man?" I said yes, she said "Does he support the humans?" I said yes, and she took the Labor how-to-vote and refused to take all others.

Who knew how easy it could be for the Left to court the religious right vote?

Anyway, this all serves Carpenter right for being such a blatant political opportunist in his calling of the election.

Hahahahahahah "Does he support the humans?"

I looked up my booth's results from the 2007 Federal Election and found out the CEC got one vote there out of ~2000, hence spent all day looking for that one voter. Looks like she voted at your booth instead, though.
