Guys, make sure you take the library survey - I think most of us have a problem with students who leave items on desks/students who play games in the group study area.

Make your voice heard! :D

This is what I said:

Frankly, some students need to be told that group areas are for students who want to discuss academic work. It's unfair that many students rush into the library early to 'bags' areas, only to sit there all day playing with their laptops and phones.

Also, unattended desks with items 'bagsing' them should be given to students who want to work. Items should be simply thrown on the floor or moved to a lost-items collection area.

Problem:

-Inconsiderate students who hog the computer visiting some asian site when i need it for research

-Inconsiderate students who camp in the group roooms from dawn to dusk.

-Inconsiderate students who camp and reserve desks unproductively

-Inconsiderate students who also camp in the reserve when the signs clearly tell them, only pity and sympathy for those disadvantaged fobs is holding me back.

Solution

- a benevelent desk and computer nazi , or equivilant

If you need the computer or desk for work related and you are going to actively use it, np, but when someone needs the computer for urgent research and your browsing around on some chinese website, doing jack-shit, your being discourteous and inconsiderate of others.

I didn't want to mention the whole Asians being 98% of the problem thing. :p

Many things make me want to stab the library staff. As for having a nazi, I dont think it will ever happen. They dont really care if we can study or not, at least that is the way it seems. The desk problem is not purely cause Asian students take up space. I think it is just a matter of not enough desks and a bad attitude of all students to one another (not pointing the finger at anyone in particular). The holding of desks and sleeping in study spaces is rude, esp if it is for more than 10 minutes. Students should be able to go get a book or 2 and not lose their desk, but they shouldnt be able to go out for food and a smoke and expect to have the same desk when they get back.

As for reserve, they need more books. The shit I want is always out!

If you ever need a stapler, there is one at the information counter near the entrance. It is automatic, and they are always fun.

What is the definition of a good/bad toilet?

At least 95% of people who sit in the library, but clearly do not need to be there, are Asian.

Yesterday, I walked past all the study groups on level 3, and they were all occupied by Asians who were fucking around. I don't see why the library doesn't advertise the open tutorial rooms as an alternative for students who don't actually need to occupy valuable library space. Hell, go Mosman city council (or whereever it is) and but the signs in 5 different languages for all I care. Yes, there's a big Asian population at the uni, but when you compare it to the students who were using the desks, I think you find a big difference.

Edit: In conclusion, we should rent out the filmsoc office as prime real estate. :D

But then where will we watch Futurama and sleep? I think that is an absurd suggestion and I demand that you take it back. Take it back!

My conclusion is buildings and grounds stop being such f*** heads and let students use rooms when there are no classes in them.

:( Ok, I want my filmsoc membership now...

I agree, a lot of the problems in the uni have to do with asians doing typically asianish things such as hogging tables and suck. Freakin' asians :p

What are they sucking?

I reckon there should be a booking system in place for rooms, maybe a small refundable fee
Too many tables to watch out for though, maybe only one area should be patrolled, like level 2 or something....

Yeah, but you gotta remember the staff have to deal with incompetent f*ckwits who shouldn't be in high school, let alone university.

The main problem with Asian international students is that they don't frickn go HOME (or anwhere else NOT the library) when the library closes...and it's been reported some have been locked in the library as they didn't leave in time.

Just because they have to deal with incmpetent fuckwits doesnt mean that i need to be treated like a moron cause my question is strange. They decided to work there. They could go work somewhere else if they want. I saw a sign at the sandwich bar looking for someone to work.

I just think that if you go into a job like that, you should be a people-ish person. Not an angry, crabby fucker that so many librarians are.

Now thats something, being locked in the library after hours...

I am not the type of student who can sit down and mow through 4 hours worth of work... I cant even sit down and work thoroughly for 1 hour. I just sit in the pink comfortable seats around the BBC tele near the entrance making notes and studying......

Yesterday in the library computer room (bottom level), some asian sat next to me for more than 2 hrs sampling all the music files, visitng chinese forums and some pr0n while i was researching and doing some final edits to my essay....

While this was happening, i looked at the long que (15 people) who actually needed the computer, not for pr0n and chinese forums.

As for library staff, if someone is fucking around for 15 min doing jac shit in a room, u can ask the staff and the staff should be able to kick those campers out.

It is alright to be diligent in your studies, but after several hour study marathon, its clear someone else can be more productive than u on the desk. Be courteous, even if u r paying astronomical international full fees, it does not give u the right to abuse this service and be selfish to others.

Like, wouldn't they have some sort of porn filter on library computers :p you'd think so!

In my library survey I requested a portion of the group study rooms to be able to be booked in advance. *nod*
