i've been thinking about this

obviously nice people

i think it's a lot better if you can find a part time job in a shop which closes at 5, so you don't have to do fri and sat night shifts. what do you think?

uh huh, closing at general times is good cuz you dont want to be working late into the evening when majority of people are in their home sweet homes.

the actual job - like what you do; if it's cleaning, databases, sales, cooking, etc.

where you work - in a shopping centre, in a small shop deserted from other shops...

the actual area of the job and the company/people you work for - hospitality, retail, beauty, recreation...

I prefer late closing.

Not many customers and able to work after uni/school

Friendly Boss and Staff
Serving nice/polite customers
Good pay
Long hours per shift**

**lots of people i know work like 3-4 hour shifts which I think is rather pointless. I would much rather dedicate a day doing a 12hour shift, than wasting 3 afternoons to get the 12 hours done...

At this stage, why would you care about anything beyond the rate of pay?

Actually, being able to travel to and from the job would be another consideration.

I've heard one of my co-workers say this
"the golden rule in life is have a job that is close to where you live"

and when you think about it, it's true.....how much leisure time do people waste everyday driving in traffic jam to work....those hours could be spent on sleeping and just enjoying it with your soulmate...

my geog lecturer reckons that most people want to live within ~1hr of where they work, and i tend to agree, any thing above that is starting to hurt.

yeh i live a 2 min drive (20 min walk) from my work which is great..
its also a nice shopping centre with a small food court and a few places to get clothes.. music.. dvds etc
the pay for casual job is pretty much within $1-2 of each other at different supermarkets.. so im not really concerned about the pay
they are really flexible where i can just write my name then NA in the diary and they just give me shifts on other days when i am available.. and ive made alot of friends there who i can always call and ask to trade me a shift
the supervisors are all really nice as well
i like being able to work after school because i usually do 2-3 weekdays then i have the weekend off to go out and stuff..
also they know i dont really like working on checkouts so they tend to give me 1 or 2 variety shifts a week and sometimes ask to work in deli or bakery.. i like working in different places (which is another good thing about it..)

the things i look for in a job (which i mustnt of done properly to have my crappy job)
- working with people that are easy to get along with
- nice boss who takes time to get to know each of his/her employees
- praise and positive feedback from jobs you have done well
- the ability to have some F-U-N whilst working

Not being stuck doing the same things day in and day out. Variation is always good.
