I'm not sure what LimeWire is used for...

Do a search for 'How P2P works' in google.

There's no reason for the thread to be closed at the moment, the last instance was a accidental mistake that's been cleared up now.

some mods are awesome, others need to take a cold hard look at themselves

p2p's are a tricky subject for a mod as they need to ensure that nothing illegal is said in the forum, so they sometimes cant tell when a thread or post is tettering on the boundary of legal and illegal what they should do

is an overzealous mod going to close this thread as well?
This thread was originally closed as it was discussing illegal file transfers. It was reopened as the post was seen to have potential as a problem to be solved, as long as it did not defer into the world of piracy.

Closing a thread about breaching copyright is not "overzealous", and the mod does not go on a "power trip". I really don't understand why people accuse them of doing this - who on Earth gets their jollies and feels important from locking topics that are a violation of the Forum Guidelines? I think I can safely say that every mod I've talked to, is a reasonable person who does not "power trip" on the Internet. Power tripping users are usually the ones who cause trouble and end up with a ban.

The reason P2P discussions are touchy, is that Google indexes these forums. If people turn up a search for "Bored of Studies", and the topic they find is "Where to download songs", or "How can I download songs, it's not working", then there's every possibility that it would just add to the reasons for BOS to be shut down. If we solicit illegal material, bye bye forums. The responsibility lies with the owner, Lazarus.

If a user posts a topic that could get us into trouble, then the problem falls on the administrators. It could go further, placing the blame on the user, as we are removed from liability at what is posted here, but most likely, BOS would be shut down and/or the administrators would receive fines.

This is a free service, aiming to help people. That's why this topic was reopened, to solve the computer problem. But illegal material will not be tolerated here, and will be closed or deleted on sight.

Please do not let this discourage your posting. Conversations involving Peer to Peer programs are generally ok. But when they cross or border a line on getting BOS into trouble, they will be closed. If you have futher questions on this topic, please feel free to ask.

I'm curious, what isn't illegal on Limewire?
Even shareware files need to be downloaded from a responsible/original source for it to be completely legal right?

EDIT: OK, home/amatuer videos/music/artwork/programs might be legal...
