Run arch linux using openbox on everything I own except for one newish laptop which has features that aren't supported as well as I'd like yet under linux.
Most things run smoothly through it, there are a few things that WINE has troubles with but still.
And just in general, anyone on a low power machine(e.g. a netbook) go for the xfce desktop environment, I used to use it on my old P4 and it was fantastic, and still use it on my netbook. Which I use Ubuntu on exclusively.
I have a desktop and a laptop. I use the laptop for school work which runs Linux Mint 15 - I'm really happy with it.
I barely use my desktop even though it's more powerful, that runs windows 7.
