- union fees for workplace unions like the sda. (unfortunately not uni unions *sigh*)
- uniforms where there is a preferred dress or uniform
- work related expenses such as paying for a certificate course or something.

umm there's heaps more.

No - unless those jeans and shoes are work-specific (i.e a reasonable person could associate those clothes to your particular workplace)
In general, clothes are not deductible as they are of a private or domestic nature unless they are uniforms, or are as I've said above

For a full list of deductions generally available under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997, go to www.austlii.edu.au and follow the links to the relevant federal legislation.

You can claim up to $300 without receipts...if it's more than that then yeah u need receipts

Unfortunately it doesn't count - and I know it seems unfair.

But yeah, as yenta said, just claim the maximum $300 so you don;t have to provide reciepts anyway

What about claiming my laptop Minai? I half bought it for the purpose of tutoring at uni and half for private use.

The ATO website says "If you incurred an expense that was both work related and private or domestic, you can only claim a deduction for the work related portion of the expense.".

Uhhh, I dunno.

Well, yes, you can claim a deduction for the percentage you used the laptop for work (I THINK you estimate that)

they dont look into that until they audit you and catch you red handed, so not at this stage.

i think ATO target the rich ppl and the companies rather than students like us, so fake everything you got, get all your tax withheld back :D
