Hey guys, i was seriously considering ANU for combined law degree up until today. I was looking forward to living by my self with reduced distractions and spending a couple of years productively. But today i unexpectedly received an offer for combined law at UNSW which is close to home. So now i have a decision to make.

Has anyone done so with similiar motives or expectations? Has anyone found living by yourself on campus to be more productive and less distractions?

depends. how determined are you? how easily can you get distracted?

fundamentally your question is flawed because the answer is it all depends on YOU, not the setting you're in. if you are a type A individual who sees a goal of getting all HD's and can zone out for a month to study for finals, this will occur regardless of what uni you go to.

also you seem to suggest living on campus means you won't have a social life. unless you're an antisocial hermit, this won't occur as it's absolultely natural that you socialise/attend parties/make mates at uni... perhaps even more so if you live on campus due to your mates being around you 24/7. but thankfully most uni students aren't dumb and they will buckle down come assignment/exam time.

also if you live on campus obviously you'll spend more time looking after yourself/cleaning up/buying groceries etc etc. you won't have your folks to look after you.

Dude, uni is one of the times of your life you can get away with not being particularly productive. Don't waste that oppurtunity. That said, you can get as much as you want done. There's plenty of computer labs and study rooms if the residential halls are a bit noisy.

Uni, indeed life generally, is about growing. New experiences, challenges etc.

I say come to ANU. It will be a new experience.
