I understand, and i do think that talking about what the constitution is/means would be good.
I just think... its hard for the accademia to provide a "balanced" view, even when they try.

edit:
I'm honestly not exaggerating Asquithian.

It's balanced when they present both sides. Which, from my exeriences, is what they do.
Well we haven't had any readings that disagree with Noam Chomsky... And the only readings we have from those who may be on the right are usually laughable editorials in newspapers from the 19th century filled with racism and other such garbage.

Shady... Since when was the iraq war 'AGAINST THE WHOLE COUNTRIES WISHES'...
- The Polls 'showed' we weren't THAT against it.
- We had an election, he won with an increased majority even at a time when the war was going terrible.
- It would be impossible for a leader to send his countrymen into a war that the whole country disagreed with.

In fact I think lecturers like students when they go against the readings they provide.

In the globalisation course last year I was too cautious and didn't really argue either way in my main essay. Mainly because I was a little worried since the tutor was a communist earning through nose pommie. However my friend didnt care and wrote an essay arguing for globalisation really strongly. She got 84.

Whereas I only lent in favour of globalisation rather than argued passionately for it.
Well i guess that is one of the positive aspects. Accademics while often passionate in their own beliefs (I guess when you've worked with the same ideas for so long you form a passionate opinion), can still be professional when it comes to marking and still respect anothers point of view as long as it isn't.... stupid.

Zahid, You will never be supported by the people while you hate the people. If we're a country of retards why do you give a shit?

I find it interesting that ... shady I believe claimed that "people talk shit about labour and dont wanna back it up!". Meanwhile him and his bum buddy Zahid here are just sitting around bagging out the liberals with name-calling childish bullshit.
When I made some points that argued against Shady's notion that the public was so against the war in iraq he didn't even bother to respond.

Only in an idea society would everyone be informed. That's why party's focus on simply easy to repeat mantras, that are often false, to win elections. They have to win the vote of the ignorant and the person who may not be that critical - which is the majority. For all those who do understand the Liberal party and their policy and voted for them accordingly there were a great many people out there who voted dead in line with liberal party propaganda. The same goes for the Labor party.
That's not very fair. If Kim supported euthanasia in '98, he would've won, but consciously chose not to becasue he didnt believe in it. Same with Beattie supporting Native Title thereby risking his future as well as loosing the redneck vote to Hanson.
Keep hope alive Asq.

Ur seriosuly diluted so much that you think the whole public was for the war in iraq, where there were no australian interests besides Bush shaking a fair trade aggreement infront of that faggot howard? Shit, those liberals did a hell of a number on you.

Neo_o I think we might have to introduce exams along the line of "What is the Senates job?" "Who sets interest rates" etc, if they fail they can't vote. It makes sure you have an informed election.

I don't think that you read my post, either that or you're just taking the piss.

In all honesty - it's peoples choice on whether the want to be informed or not, and even those that aren't as well educated, or as interested in politics as some, still should have the RIGHT to vote, anything less is despotism.

Children are taught about these sorts of things (not the interest rates stuff though) in either year 5 or year 6. It's barely remembered, if at all.
