Hi guys,
I'm starting at Macquarie this coming semester, studying the Bachelor of International Studies degree. While e-mailing the academic advisor, I was told that there would be some significant changes to Macquarie's 2010 curriculum however there hasn't been any indication as to what exactly is changing as of yet.
I'm just wanting to know if any of you have an idea of what is changing, in the Bachelor of International Studies degree in particular.
Thanks!

Yeah same I am not sure what is the new curriculum, I tried google and the macquarie website. Am I meant to ask the departmental administrator for each of my units?

I'm fairly sure that if you're commencing in 2009, then the 2010 changes shouldn't affect you too much.

I e-mailed the academic advisor for the Bachelor of International Studies about some concerns, to which she told me the curriculum was changing at the beginning of 2010 (my second semester).
I was asking her about language study, and she said the new curriculum would allow me to integrate the language units I wanted to study within the 3 year threshold without any additional semesters (seeing as students commencing the course in semester two are unable to begin any language units, thus pushing back the course). So from this, I'm guessing the curriculum change will affect at least some students beginning in semester two I'm guessing?

Yeah they are going to be major changes, atleast in the Econ/Fin/Accg departments.
I hear that Accg323 is changing to 3 cp, but like the above poster they dont effect you if you've realdy enrolled previously. I got this after emailing Bill Blair whose the director of undergrad studies.

Heya, im in my first year starting second semester next week... Last semester I went to an information evening for going on exchange and they told us some of the changes including:
-The compulsory exchange will be moved to 1st semester, third year instead of second semester second year
-The internship will no longer be compulsory and will be moved to second semester, second year
-Some of the compulsory International Studies units will be replaced with new ones or new ones added such as third year INTS 303 Global Issues - comprises of a portfolio related to your semester on exchange.

they had an info session for us B IntSt students last semester as well... from what i remember they're changing the program for all IntSt so that the internship is now 2nd year and exchange is 3rd year, so it looks like the changes will be affecting old students (at least 2009 starters) and 2010 ones... for IntSt/LLB exchange is still 4th year so you do law units while on exchange, which means you can go anywhere and not just the country of your studied language

EDIT: i found a link that has some info about changes
http://senate.mq.edu.au/apc/acad_program10.htm

you can't access the links, but there is a list of new units and it appears that they're quite a few new ones for IntSt

I emailed a couple of people in the admin now and they said the new curriculum would have a 3 year transition period so like most people said if we are not enrolled from 2009 so we should be fine.

Plus they said that if we were to be faced with a problem then they would help as much as they can.
