A 50 turn rectangular coil of dimensions 5 cm x 10 cm is "dropped" fom a position where B = 0T to a new position where B = 5T and is directed perpendicular to the plane of the coil.

Calculate:

a) the change in magnetic flux the rectangular coil experiences

b) the resulting average emf induced in the coil if the displacement occurs in 0.25s

a) final flux is 5*A*50, where A is the area of each coil

so change in flux is just 5*A*50 since initial flux is zero

b) average emf is average time rate of change of flux which is 5*A*50 divided by .25

heres wat i got:

a) 5*A where A = area = .05*.1 square metres
you dont multiply by the number of turns-remember this is only important when u work out the emf, i.e. the next question
answer: 0.025 webers
b) induced emf = rate of change in flux * number of turns
= 0.025/0.25 * 50
= 5V

hope it helps
