Im doing BCom and majoring in economics (business economics).

I chose BCom because it was more flexible and when I started I didnt know what id major in. I hated QMB (statistics) and with me doing BCom I can avoid econometrics because it isnt compulsory. For someone doing a BEc and majoring in Economics it is required that they complete 2 econometrics subjects.

And that's why B.Ec graduates will be pushing you over on the way to lucrative work.
Not everyone is interested in the 'lucrative' Quant work politik. Seeing as though he has a B.Com, there are certainly other avenues he can pursue.

To the original poster, I would say if you are looking for a career based around economics ie. economists etc , then you'll probably need the double degree. In a competitive field, two are better than one.

no way you can do lucrative quant work with two extra subjects: intro metrics and metric methods...all they do is give you a seat at the table in a discussion so you dont look like a complete dick

i would choose those courses in the business economics major because they are bred and butter...
