Hi guys,
so I am doing 3 units of math and a problem is that my teacher (teaches both my advanced and ext class) is not really good at explaining and Im kinda concerned for when she starts teaching the more complicated concepts. Rn we are kinda just revising year 10 stuff from last year and Ive noticed that like most people in my class are just going at their own pace and not listening to her loll.

Is theree any advice you guys could give me? Oh and fyi i also started going to priv math tutor for 2 hours a week... yeah :)

Thank youu.

oh 😭😭😭 does anyone have any advice tho??? 😭😭😭😭😭😭
if its any help, i felt the exact same way about my ext 1 teacher too but ended up doing fine in the course

unfortunately all that you can do is put in extra hours outside of school and try and teach yourself whatever topic you’re doing now (or just ask your tutor, either one works)
ext 1 content is definitely self-teachable so dw it just takes a lot of patience

Why are you not asking questions?

You need to take responsibility for your own education. If you have trouble with maths you can ask questions on maths Stack Exchange (search the Q/A first) or over here.

Try to understand the concepts by watching videos (mcgrathematics is pre good for just learning imo) or using a textbook (e.g. Cambridge, don’t use maths in focus cuz it sucks)and make sure u do lots of exam style questions

if a question is easy and you can figure out all the steps in your head, don’t bother doing it

If a question is hard, don’t avoid it for ego reasonsπŸ₯€πŸ₯€πŸ₯€

don’t delude yourself into thinking you know a concept better than you actually doπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

the most important thing imo is to just do a lot of hard questions. Also, mark what u do very harshly

If u get a question wrong? Make sure u actually take the time to fully understand the working out πŸ₯€πŸ₯€πŸ₯€

In my humble opinion, excel study guides and atomi are far too easy and give a false sense of security

I think you should change your tutor if he cannot guide you for your studies and provide the necessary resources.

Make sure your tutor covers topics in the same order as your school and stay one or two lessons ahead of class so that whatever your class teacher explains, it is revision for you. My youngest is studying at uni to be a high school maths teacher and as a tutor, this strategy is working very well for her junior high students.
