What do you people think will be of the 2004 HSC paper?

You think they are gonna put more mathematics questions due to lots of complaints about it being English based?

And if they add heaps of mathematics questions, do they have to warn us or can they just make the change and not say a word?

Well im not sure exactly how many complaints have been made, and even so, i dont think the board of studies will change it due to the complaints.

I think that if there is to be any changes to next years paper, it will be seen in the modification of next years Physics Syllabus.

Just my opinion though........

Well I mean the syllabus does have a lot of mathematics in it,

But they don't tend to ask many.

So what I'm saying is that they could turn it into a 50% maths paper without telling us because it's still in the same syllabus.

Yeah sorry I mis-interpreted your first post. Yeah well I guess there's nothing stopping them from adding more mathematical problems to next years exam. They don't give any advice on what is in the exam papers, so yeh i guess they could without telling anybody.

who cares... the math that the BOS produce for physics is all simple anyways... but i doubt that they will do that because it would be against the philosophy of this new science syllabus:

"increases students' understanding of the history, nature and practice of physics and the applications and uses of physics, the implications of physics for society and the environment, and the current issues, research and developments in physics."

As opposed to uni physics, which is basically the application of mathematical analysis to the physical universe. :)

I don't think they'll respond in any major way to the complaints either. The new syllabus was supposed to get away from physics being just maths.

Although, uni physics starts off as a little mixed. It only gets really mathematical in 2nd year.

i don't think they understand why everyone's complaining about the physics exam. i reckon that they have to sack quite a lot of people in the board of studies department, have a restructure, and revert to the old syllabus, if they want to see some real change

like, now they'd prefer students know that electricity is bad because it means trees would be logged to make power poles.

i remember they advertised back then that the new syllabus was supposed to make it easier for teachers to teach. no wonder! now even english teachers can teach science...what a nice way to fix teacher shortage...

why can't they just build the transmission lines on the trees...

and don't forget the argument that electricity is bad because it leads to a reduction in the demand for unskilled labour and an increase in long-term unemployment... i find this extremely funny. what does it have to do with physics, shouldn't this be in some social science subject?

the whole syllabus is based on the historical, environmental, political, and sociatal issues that science or the development of science has influence over. i think the maker of the syllabus wants us to know how important and useful science can be and therefore would choose to do it in university. somehow, i think, by doing this they also gonna produce a lot of substandard scientists who would finally end up writing hsc syllabuses rather than receiving the noble prize...
