For a question in my half-yearly exam i was trying to work out the distance of a line and was told to prove it was 5units. I think i was meant to use the perpendicular distance formula but for some reason i didn't and i decided to use the sine rule and got like 4.94 and said it was approximately 5.

Is that wrong?

Any correct method should give you the same result. Since your answer wasn't 5, I think it was wrong.

but isnt the sine rule more accurate and thus would give decimals as well rather than just a whole number?

It depends. From what I know, you could most probably get it right. You probably rounded off an angle or something (before the final answer) and that's why you got 4.94.

But if your workings all right, it should be fine or atleast only one mark deducted.
