Here's a few to start you off:

1. Sketch y=1/(2-x) - 5

2. If p and q are the roots of the equation x²+4x-1=0, without finding the roots, evaluate:

a) 3p+3q
b) 4pq
c) 1/p + 1/q
d) (p+1)(q+1)
e) p²+q²
f) (p-q)²
f) p³+q³

3) If x, 18, x² are consecutive terms in an arithmetic series, find x.

Some for series and sequences:

1. Show that (x+1) + (2x+4) + (3x+7) + ... is an arithmetic series. Hence find the sum of the first 50 terms of the series.


2. A couple borrow $140 000 to buy a house. Interest is charged on the loan at 15% per annum, and the loan (including interest) is to be paid off by equal monthly instalments over 20 years, with the first instalment to be made one month after time of purchase.

(i) Calculate the amount of each installment to the nearest cent.
(ii) Calculate the amound still owed at the end of 10 years.
