hsc mark moderation question

hey i got a question

this say is my cummulative assesement marks for including my class

assessment external exam mark Moderated mark HSC
a=90 Me=92 a=92 a=91
b=87 a=87 b=87 b=87
c=85 b=82 c=82 c=83.5
Me=75 c=70 me=70 me=72.5

so im thinking. even if i come first in my external exam. im still gona get a really low moderated mark because of my ranking in class.
so its not worth the efforts cos its so unfair?
am i right on this or am i missing something?

Yes, it is worth the effort, it is worth the effort for the ENTIRE YEAR for that reason.

Your HSC mark is the average of the two so you may as well try the best.

Your table is really hard to understand but if you got an external mark of 92 and a moderated one of 70 then your HSC mark would be 84, not 72.5

sorry for the table

my point is
isnt your hsc mark the average of your your exam mark and moderated assessement mark?
is this true?

while your example mark you get in hsc is unaltered

your moderated mark depends on your ranking

so if my rank first in my assement ranking(hypothetically)
---------------------------------------------------------------
assessment ranking exam mark

(1st)me (90%) jack=99%
(2nd)jack ( 85%) me=95%
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Don't i get a moderated mark of 99% since im coming first in assessment mark? then you average it and get a HSC mark of 94.5%
where as jack takes my exam mark and gets averaged
is this not the case or have I just totally confused myself?

I'm sure the people that continually beat you in internal exams would find it unfair if you beat them in one (albeit important:p ) exam and ended up with the top mark overall:rolleyes:
If you don't put the effort in during the year you will find it difficult to miraculously achieve prodigious results. That being said if rank 1st in your trials and the HSC exam - you will end up with a decent mark.
Jeez, you are willing to give up so easily, that is another aspect of the HSC - to test who has the drive to continue - if you fail a couple of exams at uni would you drop out????

ok. you got a point

but im saying a person who rank really low in the assessment, even though he get a extremely good result(with tons studying) in the HSC mark. His mark is not going up too much because of the moderation,the benefit of this high result goes to people who is higher up in the rank?

i know i sound like winge like a ...... .
but is this true?

and does your hsc exam also alters your ranking in class?

Thats why you study hard throughout the year.

Your HSC exam does not alter your class rank.

Remember the better the top score is the better your assesment mark will be, sure the person who came first will get a better mark but considering they are just a minute quantity of people it isnt important in the large scheme of things.

I'd have to disagree.

Your examination mark and moderated assessment mark contribute EQUALLY to your HSC mark. Using your logic, we could argue analagously that a student ranked first (i.e. with the best moderated assessment mark) who does poorly in the exam will receive a poor HSC mark.

This obviously isn't true. If you haven't done as well as you should have in your school assessments, make up for it by doing particularly well in the exam.

Take out 2U Mathematics. Extension 2 students don't sit that examination paper - instead, Extension 1 and Extension 2 each count as 2 units.
