Simplify.

4(a-2(b-c)-(a-(b-2)))

I seriously sm confused on this question. I need to know the proper working and the right order to do such brackets

You work from the one that is covered with most brackets and solve it form there.

I wish I can write that on my computer but is quite difficult.

4[a-2(b-c)-{a-(b-2)}] = 4[a-2b+2c-(a-b+2)] = 4[-b+2c-2] = 8c - 8 - 4b

alternatively, you can use factor theorem on the root itself.

if P(a) = 0, then a is a root.

so find P(root5-1)

√x + √y = √(8+√60)

The trick here is to square both sides.

(√x + √y)² = [√(8+√60)]²

x + y + 2√xy = 8 + √60

Now equate parts on both sides,

So x + y = 8, and 2√xy = √60
√4xy = √60
4xy = 60
xy = 15

Hence x=5 and y=3.
