out of pure curiosity, does anyone know the length of training + pathway to go from B.Dent/BDS to becoming a max-fax surgeon?

i hear theres a fast track from dent into year 3 grad med in certain uni's due to the clinical experience + exactly the same material taught in y1/2 of bdent + bmed @ usyd...

Basically you get your dent degree, then do a program were you do 3 years med + internship + PG training for OMS.
If you have an MBBS you do a 3 year dent course after your internship then PG training for OMS.
Information can be found here http://www.racds.org/examinations/oms/training

yep! thats a good link..
the max-fac guys at uni with me are soooo elite.. lolz when they are on-call they just run out of tuts.. my mate tried tat when his mom called. tutor was less happy ..

its mostly clinical experience cos they do their basic sciences very well..
and its one of the best paying and rewarding surgical careers too..

some say go do dent first.. others say med first... i think its the same... pick and choose i guess

You should do dent first. You do dent, then at least 2 years of work, then do med.
A friend who is doing dent said most the OMS trainees are doctors not dentists, just thought that was interesting.
