Really depends. But the criteria for medical admission for most unis are based on 1/3 ATAR, 1/3 UMAT and 1/3 Interview. That being said, most unis give out interview offers based on your atar and umat scores. So i'll say that umat and atar are both important, so don't stuff up in either.

Lol at shit ATAR part, you'd still need a good ATAR even with great UMAT. Even with super awesome UMAT + awesome interview, most unis require at least 94 or so ATAR approximately. And with a 94, that's normally some bonded deal or something.

i can tell you that for most universities (except UNSW) there is a umat cut off to be offered an interview
you must surpass the min. umat score to get an interview at these unis

for instance, if you don't get over 91st percentile, you won't get a Newcastle Interview even if your ATAR is 99.95
For Monash its usually 93 percentile
For UWS it varies depending on whether you're a GWS or nonGWS applicant
For UNSW look at the table provided on their website

Well in any case, I don't think the 90+ ATAR needed could ever be called getting a shit ATAR. I'd call a shit ATAR *.

Just out of curiosity, say I didn't prepare / study for UMAT and usually have trouble comprehending the text in one read. Also have trouble solving difficult puzzles and he/she does the Umat test.

Approximately how much would he/she get. My mum is telling to have go for it just for fun.

From which percentile is it considered to be a "fail"

Fail is the dumbest term ever. I mean a fail is simply someone not utilising what they could of. Like a dyslexic person who had literacy struggles through childhood scoring getting a 40 could be considered a massive success. A "smart" person could be overconfident and not study and get a 40 and that would be a fail because they achieved well below what they could of.

I didnt know UNSW even accepted 90 atar for med, always thought it was 95/96+?

Anywho, if your atar is above 95/96 and you ace the interview, yes you will get in.

95/96 is for rural applicants. Probably would need high UMAT and ATAR to be competitive. I think the median ATAR that applicants had was ~99.60

Not for UWS, 95/96 with good umat and interview would get you in
