just clarifying, they've just chucked combined med/arts with med haven't they? as in, its the same UAC code, but i've still only applied for med, right???

Yes, that is correct.

if it's any more help in addition to Huy's post, you don't really nominate that you want to also study arts until you actually enrol at the university :)

and I'd definitely recommend fusing med with something else as you go along, because in med you don't get electives like in other degrees, and as such it's pretty much med-focused all the time. Imagine that for 6 years straight (let alone work experience and specialisations later on!).

Yeah, combiMed is a smart move career-wise as well, since your patients will expect you to have experience with people as well as interests of your own. It's universally accepted that doctors who can speak about things other than medicine (ie by studying other things in addition thereto) will better deal with their patients (and people in general). Not to mention you may just get fed up with med and want to do something else for a while. ArtsMed allows you to take a year off med and focus on your arts degree, the best refresher around.

It is hard to get though, as you need to apply after enrollment (and only about 5 are selected per intake, according to UNSW guy).

Right then! Lets see if you can get to degree level in any arts course JUST by reading about it.

I don't disagree (with reading = intelligence), as I've learnt more through reading than I have through instruction. But you simply can't get to that level of expertise a Bachelor's degree certifies without some assistance in the form of tertiary guidance.

of course, but you were arguing that it should be done to increase general intelligence. is doing another degree entirely necessary?

there are WAAAY more than 5 arts/med students in my year at UNSW.

there is no restriction, but you have to weigh in the pros & cons of doing an extra year for arts/med. methink 6 years is already long enough, an extra year would just make it more painful (however interesting it may be).

Well, in theory if I get my MBBS/IntStuds I'll be doing 8 years due to the year overseas. I still am all for it simply because the two degrees are an almost complete embodiment of my passions.
