med sci is really the research side of the medicinal science... as regard to pay, i heard from some one that u get paid loads....

as for transferin to med, well, it's nto compulsory, and i doubt med sci is of any real advantage to someone who do a b sci majorin in things liek bio chem or biology...

plus!!! it cost the same as medcine i think

lol true...might be because of the government capitalising on the fact that the degree is basically a BGamsat (as robert (lexi) put it) and people not realising it has no inherent advantage over BSci

If you are really and truly interested in Medical Science as a career (rather than a pathway to something else) then by all means go for it! Hard to get in, and a lot of work to keep up, but the subject matter is fascinating (if that's your thing).

I did Medical Science at USYD last year, becuase I didn't get a high enough score to get into Med. Im glad I changed though, becuase med is not for me lol. I do Biological science now, it's much more interesting. Im not really sure what type of career I want to go into though, but I like science a lot.

Not true. Medsc subjects usually falls under band 2 hecs, with the exception of Perspective in Medical science I and II (band 3).

But that's because you're first year, doing the generic science subjects right? Once you get to specialised medical science subjects (immunology, hæmatology etc) you'll pay band 3.

*sighs* I think i know my course juuuuust a little bit better than you do. Genetics subjects are from the School of Biological Science, all their subjects are band 2. Biochem/microbiology are from the School of Biomolecular Science, which also are band 2. The only subjects that are band 3 are people doing medicine and law. Those are offered by the faculty of medicine. And even in medicine, some subjects are under band 2, including most anatomy subjects.

Check the HECS guidelines. In Band III are Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

I thought by now you should understand hecs are calculated base on subjects, not the course.... Those are offered by the school of medical sciences... not all med sc subjects in unsw are offered by the school of medical science...check the unsw handbook.

 I'm not here to fight with you, so don't get defensive or expect to fault me on such a trivial matter. My point wasn't that ALL medical science subjects are charged at the Band III rate, just that more are so in the later years than in first year - which is why I contested your statement that only Perspective in Medical science I and II are charged at the higher rate. Obviously I haven't picked through the UNSW handbook (since I don't have one) but surely something this simple wouldn't require me to do so.

Then stop challenging everything I say....gosh...
From what I saw in the unsw handbook, with subjects that are offered in B MedSc, all of them are band 2 including year 2 and 3 subjects, excluding perspective in med sc I and II. I am pretty sure on this..

I'm not trying to challenge everything you say! If the UNSW course is structured in such a way as to minimise the number of Medical Science subjects charged under Band III then good for them (and you). I was just speaking about Medical Science courses in general.

seriously, if you have a problem with me, we can solve this in the mod forum.... no need to insinuate "hidden" attacks on other mods.

Sorry to butt in on your little moderator love tangle, but it seems as though you both cannot let the other person have the final word... As Lexicogrpher said, surely there is no need to take a trivial matter so far.
