Does anyone know what sort of questions they ask at Medicine Interviews ?

Depends where you go. Different unis ask different questions.

They ask mostly about your personal life at UNSW (childhood experiences, family relationships, etc. and occasionally about your motivation about medicine)

Newcastle asked both personal and scenario-based questions.

Chudymaster, I know the Newcastle interview offers aren't out yet, but in the meantime anyway, what's the best way to prepare for their interviews? Especially with the scenario-based questions, is it a good idea to talk to doctors a lot about various random situations or is it non-prepareable-for?

Yeah...how do u answer that? "Why do U want to do medicine?"
Some cliche response about saving the world? Or retelling a memory from a broken childhood which inspired you?
What if its neither?

Well, are either of those the reasons that caused you to want to study medicine?

They don't want to hear the same tired old story from TV - the unis want to know why YOU, the candidate in front of them, the individual applying, actually wants to become a doctor.

If you have an inspiring memory and all that then huzzah, that's what you say. But if not don't even try making one up, they'll see through it in a flash and bang goes the door in your face. Just tell the truth and you're fine.

Medicine as a profession appeals to me because it is, for lack of a better word, an art. The clinal aspect of the study, the pure biology/chemistry - whatever mix you want to name it with - is my passion.

Will that cause the immediate response "why not a science degree then?" from you? ...

actualli medicine and dentistry have an art aspect too.. as illiciting signs and symptoms is apparently subjective .. and so is aspects of surgery..

science degrees just dun usualli hav as much contact with ppl.. and be that involved in medical research its a more focussed degree from the start..but there are lots of other possibly better reasons..

precisely. the clinical aspect requires a dedication which is more than just a want to 'help people'. Interest in the 'art' of medicine is just as essential.

yea but wot if the main reason is that your in it for the money, you cant just say that in their face

lik i cant think of a better reason.. but there prolly is one of why a science degree is not for u while a medical one is..

money is a shit reason for med.. but its one of them.. u make more money from Other degrees when u hit management..

thats lik saying ure in a nursing degree for the money.. essentialli its about the same..

yea but some ppl for sum passion stuff for med besides money,but do think lots of ppl are attracted by the high income

for the hours .. ud be stupid... real stupid..
if u hav no business skills .. mabbe..

but med is 11-15 yrs! to just be a specialist.. otherwise ure stuck at 70k..
then u still need a MBA or other business management qualification to move up..
