I didn't like it. It was agonisingly slow and extravagantly explosive in the action sequences. There was pointless sex scenes, one was enough, and I was bored by the third and irritated that there was even a fourth. The highlights of the movie were the cars, which was the reason I chose Miami Vice, and the salsa dancing. I watched it at the new Greater Union cinemas at Parramatta Westfields in GMAX. I doesn't matter how great the seats are, if the movies isn't decent it's a waste of money. It's been a while since I've watched something I didn't like overall and this is one of those films I wouldn't consider watching again, not even for the sexy cars.

Saw it yesterday. Not that great. My friends and I only went to watch Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. It was confusing in parts and very gory (like people getting shot in the head, blown up etc), and yes, even the sex scenes were boring. I can't believe I just said that... Yeah, waste of money. It would have been better had there been even the slightest element of humour in it, but it didn't even have one bloody joke. Big disappointment. Waste of money. Maybe consider renting it when it's out on DVD.

Worst Michael Mann movie since.. The Last of the Mohicans. It's a movie where Mann actually manages to be pretty uninspiring in every one of the areas he normally excels at. The main problem is that the Tubbs and Crockett are simply 2 decidedly unengaging characters, we know that they're grim, and they're determined, but that's all we know about them, and this setup soon gets very tedious indeed.. So monotonous are these 2 characters that combined with Mann's characteristically stylized use of music, the film resembles 2 hour long music video. After writing such fun dialogue for Collateral, the lines here are also pretty disappointing, pointlessly grim throughout, much like the characters who utter them. It wouldn't have hurt for Mann to include a moment of humour here and there to lighten things up a bit, especially as the material isn't good enough to maintain tension for close to the 2 hour running time. Gong Li i think did what she was suppose to do in a largely unrewarding role (unless you call doing the dirty with Colin Farrell a reward). Her accent is noticeable, but I she's suppose to be 'exotic' anyhow, so I don't see what the critics are complaining about.

I liked it. I felt it was a more mature film and was a little over reaching. It had ellements of romance with the love story and dancing and sex scenes, mystery over who was behind everything, thriller with the whole drug smuggling thing. Fast cars and the action was as someone said before, extravagant but i found exciting none the less.

It wasnt a fantastic movie and it probably wont win any awards, but i liked the overal feel of it, it had some nice scene locations and i am glad it didnt have ellements of an action/comedy in it as it was trying to be realistic.

If you are expecting a movie with a white cop and a black cop, some sort of culture clash with ensuing humour and undercover explosive action with rock music in the background, this isnt for you.
Jamie foxx doesnt say a single black person joke or phrase, does not say 'wat up nigga' and does not pull any white girls. If you are looking for a semi-realistic plot, ellements of love thrown in, alot of fast driving and people getting shot in the face and/ or groin without having to stop and say "damn nigga, dat shiz gonna hurt 2morrow!" then you will probably like this.

i really like the michael mann vibe, that 'staring at the city from a taxi as you're driven home drunk' kinda vibe, and heat is one of my favorite films and i dug collateral heaps too, but what on earth was the fucking point of this movie? that police work leaves you emotionally distant to everything? fair enough, but it's not enough for a film that has so little involving action and was based on a TV show where the villain has a pet alligator. foxx and farrell were non-entities, gong li is expressive as always but i barely understood a word she said.

disappointing. and HD looks like turd on the cinema screen. maybe a DVD will yield new rewards? meh.
