1337 Mod Edit

'Complements to Neowin.net, the ever growing Tech community site

For People who do not know what Longhorn is, it's the codename for the Windows 2005 - 2006 edition, which is supposedly going to change the way computing is, right now it's in Alpha stage of development, the above screenshots is the build off the PDC event Microsoft had yesterday (Sunday).

Please copy and paste the links above into your browser or else you'll have an error of not finding the picture.

And please give credits to your sources.

Yeah i have, you gotta remember this is a pre-alpha version and was only whipped up to release for the PDC Event, it was to show how Avalon and Aero's technologies were to shine, so none of the silverish skin or any portion of the UI will be a definite for keeps in the Beta's, i'm inclined to say this is a throwaway prototype MS has whipped just to show their UI technologies, don't be so critical yet, i have faith in them, since Longhorn will cost the equivalent to the man going onto the moon, i.e. approx 5 Billion dollars US is spent on this new Windows.

I'd suggests you to get out of the bias thinking of MS being crap, because, i don't think you have the slightest ability in the development of software, so zip it Mr. So Called Great Mod :p

Not same old same old, if you don't know a alpha prototype doesn't represent 1% of the BETA product, the fact that everything looks so dodgy in these screenshots is because it's not even built nothing is, it's still XP, but they are slowly implementing Aero and the Avalon engine, and portions of the Avalon engine is implementing probably 1/6 of it, it's so powerful they just wanted to whip up something really basic to show at the PDC event, what's more important is not the GUI at this stage, it will be worked on, but this event was to prepare developers to understand the new API's and the structure and dynamic of Windows programming, which is far far more advanced by the looks of things, with the inception of Longhorn i believe .NET is going to be the biggest success to date.

So before any users go saying oh no not another eye-candy Windows, i'd suggest not to comment, because this is still an Alpha, you don't know what's really coming, the underlying engines are extremely powerful.

I've got my internal sources, and i read up, and i've been playing around with some of the latest builds. So that's why no one can quite comment over me unless they know more, and actually directly has direct sources into the dev process.

I'm more worried about the WinFS bizzo. A SQL-driven FS? Shouldn't the word 'slow' apply here? Expect to have to have the 8MB buffer/7200rpm HDs at least.

It's not out for another three years or so (and considering MS + release dates, it's bound to be knocked back further. Remember how Win95 was almost Win96? :D ).

UMMM ok i agree with you on release date hold backs, in terms of the File System, well it's still in alpha, basically for compatibility concerns, believe it or not, the WinFS will be SQL based that's like slapped on top of NTFS, meaning it will work together with NTFS, so yeah, but whats's funny about this new OS MS is bringing out is about 50% of it will be written in .NET that's amazing!.
