To find a min pt or max pt of an equation there is a formula in the text book which is x=-b/2a, i just differantiate the function, make it equal to 0 and solve it, do we have to know both methods?? thanks

well all u need to know is -b/2a for finding the axis of symmetry

only for a polynomial of highest power 2 does x = -b/2a work in finding the SYMMETRY.

to find the min/max point u need to sub in the x value to find the y value and u get (x,y).
