i was wondering if anyone could help me out here..

my friend has a pc, running windows xp 2000, with two disk drives, a burner and a normal one. we put a blank CD-RW cd into the burner in order to burn some photos, but the computer didnt respond to the disk, and the drive disappeared. meaning, it doesnt show up in my computer. since then the other drive has also gone missing.

any ideas on how we can regain use of the burner, and get the computer to recognise the drives?? coz right now they are both completely missing!

Firstly, see if the devices are installed:

- Right-click on "My Computer", and click on Properties.

- On the window that pops up, click on the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager.

- When the Device Manager opens up, click on the arrow next to DVD/CD-ROM drives. The entry should expand and there should be your two disk drives there.

- If the drives aren't there, click on the icon at the top of the Device Manager that looks like a computer with a magnifying glass. This will scan your computer for new devices and it should detect the CD drives and install them for you.

- If the drives are there, perhaps the computer is not showing the drives. I'm pretty sure there's a setting somewhere in Windows that toggles this, but I can't remember where exactly it is. But try that, and good luck. :)
