Why can crossing-over occur in Meiosis, but not mitosis.....? just bit confused.........and what is the relationship among gene, chromosome and DNA?
I'll just add to that because it's probably useful/relevant.malkin86 said:gene: A hereditary unit that occupies a specific location on a chromosome, determines a particular characteristic in an organism by directing the formation of a specific protein, and is capable of replicating itself at each cell division.
chromosome: A threadlike linear strand of DNA and associated proteins in the nucleus of animal and plant cells that carries the genes and functions in the transmission of hereditary information.
Correct .em_516 said:so an eg of a gene would be the height gene and an eg of it's alleles would be the tall allele and the short allele, right?
