I wasnt expecting speech as well.. but i had a feeling it MIGHT be a speech...
anyway, i just try to remember what i did for the last assessment on speech

I think you can put some jokes in it. because we r suppose to maintain interest of the responder. This is not really a serious speech anyway. language shouldnt be that formal, too.

Well, if you put jokes in it, the content becomes not so serious neway.

I put few rhetorical questions in it.

If the question asks you to write a formal essay, then it would not be appropriate to add any jokes to your speech. If on the other hand, the question insinuated a sense of informality to your speech, then a joke would be appropriate.

What was the exact question, if you remember.

Did do Cinema Paradiso

It is a predictable question except written in a speech form.

However, the speech form is quite familiar, and simple, isn't it? I think i did use formal language, anyway, it is a quite okay question...

the question is:

Your local library is conducting a speaking competition called "what makes a story great?" write the speech you present for the competition on this question.

In your speech, you should refer to Cinema Paradiso and ONE text of your own choosing.

i think for this part is important to write the element that director used in the film for example like setting characterisation and theme and camera angles.

Well, it the examiners ask you for a speech in the context of a competition, it should be formal.
