I recently bought a new system (mobo, gfx card, psu, cpu, case) .. still using the same monitor though. With my old gfx card (radeon 9600se), I manually set my refresh rate to 85 hertz, but I had to uncheck "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" to do it. 60 hertz kind of hurts my eyes ..

Now since I got my new gfx card etc, if I try to set the refresh rate to anything besides 60 hertz, I get a black screen and an error from the monitor saying "attention: out of range. H: 74.7khz V: 70.0khZ" or something along those lines.

I'm wondering why I could set the refresh rate higher with my old gfx card with no problems, but with my new one (6600GT), the monitor gives me an error.

Any ideas?

I don't wanna stay at 60hertz :S

Are you using proper drivers for your monitor?

I'm using the drivers that were supplied with the monitor when I bought it.

I'll see if I can find updated drivers on the net - I had a brief look before but couldn't find anything =/

But the monitor was working fine @ 85 hertz before, and the driver hasn't changed since then.

I know this is super super obvious, but are you trying to run a higher resolution than before?

typically your monitor goes out of range wen its resolution is increased,
u may have accidently got around this by increasing the resolution but decreasing the refresh rate.

Yep, if you were running, say 1024x768 before @ 85Hz and now suddenly wanna force the same refresh @ 1600x1200.. it's not gonna happen baby. :)

No. I've always been running 1280x1024 @ 85hz

Before I got my new gfx card I could uncheck "hide options that this monitor cannot support" and then choose 85hz and it worked fine.

With my new gfx card, if I do the same thing, it gives me the error. I can only have it at the supported refresh rate of 60hz. Which kills my eyes.

I just got home and changed it to 1280x960 @ 70hz and my eyes already hurt.

I don't wanna be forced to use 1024x768 :(
