Im looking for a MP3 player, but I don't want a small one with small buttons and it does not have to be portable. I just want to leave it beside my desk so I can just lay down and listen to the music i've uploaded onto it.

I'm looking for one that's about 4GB-10GB, but looking for a price-tag of under $300. The lower the price, the better. Thanks.

You could get an iPod Nano, it isn't THAT much more than $300... and you could buy speakers for a cheap price (though the cheaper the price, the worse the sound quality.)

yeh, $300 is for the 2GB and $360 for the 4GB.

Really...I am hoping to get the MP3 player I've mentioned above for lower than $300...I don't want to pay $300, but that is my limit. I'm looking for along the lines of $200-$250.

Even though I have a creative zen micro, I regret getting it. Their battery life is actually really crap, doesn't last any more than 8 hours

I've got an exchange for another once, and it has made no difference, I recommend you not getting it. It's around $350

Edit: I'm not sure how much better the battery life is compared to the ipod, so you could take aaaman's advice on the comparison

That's pretty good, yeh your one is one up I think.

How small are they? Are they as small as the ipod shuffle? Or similar size to it?

current ipods last around 4-6 hours while for videos only 2

cnet.com is the best place to look for mp3 players, they rate everything and they paid out the ipods battery life hard

I did some running around melbourne today and found the something that ive been looking for. It's called the MediaGate Media Player MG-25

http://www.pccasegear.com/prod2253.htm

Looks absolutely fantastic and only costs $180. It doesn't come with a hard drive, but I can buy a 40GB hard drive for $90, so $270 aint bad for a 40GB mp3 player.

The only problem is that it is more commonly used for storing video files, so I'm not sure if it will need a TV to operate the menu...I'm hoping that the control can just instantly tell the player what to do.

I still haven't bought it, searching for any better ones out there.

zen neeon lags hard between songs and has a huge loading time, its just annoying ...
if i would recommend the perfect mp3 player its any iriver flash based one with a (li-on) battery or an iaudio u2 or u3 in 1gb capacity, its enough for 250 songs, which is plenty ... absolutely the best period, no weakness, all the features, and best sound quality ...

if you dont want a portable mp3 player then you might as well turn on your stereo at home
or simply play mp3s from your computer and lie on your bed or sumfing..
all mp3 players r portable !!!
even the big chunkie first generation ipods r somewhat considered portable!

Looks can be deceiving. I've had my Nano for a couple of months, and its still in one piece with no scratches.

Well, I'm sorta looking for a stereo, but one that has an in-built hard drive... but they seem to be very difficult to catch these days.

I found a little device that transmits mp3s from the computer to another device which is cool, but i want to listen to my mp3s at night which would mean i would have to leave the computer on all night.

looks like the other one I mentioned might be the way to go.
