MRI -purposes (1 Viewer)

Anyone got some extra info on this dot point in the second column of the syllabus?
'Explain why MRI scans can be used to
*Detect cancerous tumours
*Identify areas of high blood flow
*Distinguish between grey and white matter of the brain'

The key work there being 'why'...i know that detection of blood flow is related to hydrogen atoms etc but i haven't found much detailed info about the other two points...
OR am i just looking too deeply into this and i basically just have to repeat myself bout MRI functions???

Mri detects the areas with high levels of waters,
tumours, high blood flow and 'grey' matter has high density of water therefore thats how mri detects them

hehe wells yeh ur lookign into it too much coz im pretty sure thats all you need to know coz my teacher juz told us what you just said

With tumours...they have a sack of water around them so the mri detects that water (high level of hydrogen)

Im pretty sure white matter in the brain is more fatty and the grey matter has more water so they show up differently on the MRI
