MS Word question (1 Viewer)

I'm running MS word 2000 and I have turned overtype mode off several times by going tools->options->edit etc. but everytime I go back into word its back on. Is there any way to turn it off permanently?

Strange... that setting should save on exit...

And a quicker way to turn off Overtype mode is on the status bar with the short hand form of OVR, by double clicking on it, it will go Grey and that indicates it's turned off and Insert Mode is on.

OVR used to stump me when I was younger...then I found out that it was the accursed Insert key. Who in their right mind would use it?
