try repairing msn. (open the install file again)

How long has this happened for? Could just be network problems on msn's side.

well im gonna answer my own question here

"It sounds like your display picture "cache" of images has
been corrupted. To fix, click
Start, then Run, then type:
%appdata%\microsoft
and click OK.
Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete.
After all this, restart Messenger
and see if the problem has been corrected.

windows cannot find '%appdata%\microsoft'. You may have
typed the name incorrectly in the Run dialog, or another
open program cannot find a system file. to search a file,
click the start button and then click search."

thanks for helping

Bad idea. That'll wipe everything off it. You only do this if your computer has a serious terminal problem. Doing it here is just silly.

ALthough doing that also deletes your custom emoticons, winks, backgrounds, etc.
If you dont want to loose all them, you have to work out which hash corresponds to your email, open that directory and then specifically delete the Display pics folder.

Where are my DPs and Custom emoticons stored?
C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\<your account's number>
