And Asian fellow, you're far rom the only one - the popularity of jazz and classical depends largely on the social group you're within - the majority of my friends are huge fans of either 60's punk or modern darkwave.

Surprisingly, within these fairly offbeat demographics, theres a large amount of love for both jazz and classical, mainly sprung from respect for musicianship.

im asian too buddy , i say like wateva sorta music u want! if its wat your into who cares. im a big fan of all music , and i even study to classical music its proven songs with no lyrics stimulates brainwaves or wateva helping u study and what not.
nothing like knuckling down to some journeys essays with the sydney symphony pumping on your sound system!

esp. free/avant garde/hardbop/post-bob jazz (rahsaan roland kirk, alice coltrane, cecil taylor, derek bailey, yusef lateef etc) and 20th c/experimental classical (terry riley, cage, xenakis, dreyblatt, feldman, young)
