Sheik called to account for charity cash

Monday Apr 2 05:44 AEST

Controversial Muslim cleric Sheik Taj Aldin Alhilali has been accused of mishandling charity money raised after last year's Israel-Hezbollah war.
Tens of thousands of dollars raised in Australia were earmarked for war victims.
But Sheik Alhilali, who took charge of handing out the money in Lebanon, has failed to properly account for $US38,000 ($A47,000), The Australian reports.

Sydney's Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), which organised the money, has asked the mufti to provide banking details and a report on how the money was spent. LMA president Tom Zreika said Sheik Alhilali had been delaying accounting for the cash. "He's always constantly said: 'Give me a couple of more weeks, I'll give it to you," Mr Zreika told The Australian.
So far Sheik Alhilali, who is overseas, has provided only handwritten notes to the LMA.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that $US10,000 ($A12,400) of the charity money was handed to a supporter of the Iraqi insurgency, Sheik Bilal Shaaban, to go towards his Islamic radio station.
Attorney-General Philip Ruddock told The Australian that he was concerned that funds raised in Australia for overseas relief efforts could end up in the hands of a terrorist group.

Yeah Light And Offbeat.

I'm sick of those who are turning NCAP entirely into Islam threads.

WTF??!?! What kind of a "Discussion" is that? How pathetic.

Firstly, none of you have ever met and spoken with Sheick Tajj.. You don't know him. You only judge him from what the media claims him to be..And everyone knows the media is completely biased. They like to create drama, it's what they're built on. I guess every religion has their own peice of drama.. but no-one ever creates a post about the Pope who raped a boy or any other kind of person that one can classify as a "crook". It's sad that everyone likes to try to target Muslims in particular and make them feel inferior by emphasizing their mistakes, instead of looking at the positives. The truth is, this topic is vague.. You don't make conclusions until you have tangible evidence, and copying and pasting an article isn't really proof. Next time you want to say something about a religious leader like that Nebuchanezzar, look them in the eye and say it. Everyone knows you don't have the balls to. LOL

I'd say it to him. The man's a scum bag - now he's probably funding terrorists in the Middle East indirectly. I'm pretty sure the problem was the lack of evidence. If the Sheik cannot say where the money went and to whom, what are we to assume? He gave $10 000 to a known supporter of the Iraqi insurgency (his own hand written receipts prove that) and that is enough evidence for me.

P.S. Who is the "Pope that raped a boy"? Also, paragraphs, use them.

Nice persecution complex there.

The reason people get stuck into this guy isn't his religion, just his ardent dedication to saying sublimely stupid things any time a microphone is thrust in his face.

What type of pussy is scared of a religious leader? I'd tell the man my opinion of him to his face.

Don't try to attack me personally by criticizing the fact that I didn't find the need to seperate my writing into paragraphs. That's just sad.

Now, let's deconstruct your sentence. The part where you DELIBERATELY missed out the last few words. NOW PEOPLE THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW BIASED THINGS GO.

This is what the article (primarily biased) wrote (scroll up read it yourself if you want, I'm not regurgitating anything incorrectly)

"Meanwhile, it was also revealed that $US10,000 ($A12,400) of the charity money was handed to a supporter of the Iraqi insurgency, Sheik Bilal Shaaban, to go towards his Islamic radio station" ...

...and this is what you said "He gave $10 000 to a known supporter of the Iraqi insurgency (his own hand written receipts prove that) and that is enough evidence for me. "

What happened to the radio station part? WOW suddenly, due to all the negative thoughts you've been indoctrinated with, translate the radio station as a "SECRET TERRORIST" that needs to be funded... why do you guys always do that? you only read what you want to read? Next time you want to argue, let it at least have depth... something that you haven't twisted to suit you're own point of view. I read the article. I know what it wrote.

To tell you the truth, if he was funding, the money would be missing on a consistent basis don't you think? When that happens, I will agree, that yes, there is something definitely going on. Until then, keep up with watching the news. In that case, I won't have to defame any particular Pope. Please don't act ignorant. Ignorance is the seed to destruction. Ofcourse, if you don't like watching the news, there's google. Anyway, bye.

Yeah, that's true, I got to admit. Most of the time what he says is really respectful and it has depth but sometimes I guess he gets angry, and says things that shouldn't be said. And you know the media, waiting for him to say something like that so they can expose him as a fraud. We're looking at a worldwide issue anyhow. Any celebrity or authoritative figure does something wrong, the papparazzi are waiting to capture the moment lol.

I'm not worrying too much anyway. I think he might step down soon. There's too much drama surrounding him and it's making the Islamic population look bad. People are targeting Muslims out of anger, and it's not really helping the whole racial situation in Australia. Anyway, please don't take anything I say offensive. If you have, I'm terribly sorry.

Yes, I'm sure an Iraqi insurgency supporter is quite the honest chap, I mean, why would he lie to be given a large amount of money. Just because the newspaper and his receipts say they money was funnelled to a radio station (probably a propaganda station) doesn't mean it actually went towards that. The only one being "ignorant" here is yourself.

Furthermore, the money the Sheik was given was to go to survivors of the Lebanon-Israel war to help rebuild what was destroyed - ignoring the fact he gave the money to a possible terrorist - I think giving it to a "radio station" is a complete was of money. If I had donated money I would want it back, and I would want to know what happened to the rest of the cash.

Again, name one of the Popes who "raped a boy" if there's so many to choose from. The Vatican isn't going to sue you it's the truth. Also if you name one from 1200AD or something, Mohammed was a paedophile and kept a child bride so I think that's nullified.

Every time he opens his mouth he says something divisive, offensive or generally daft. It's not an innocent faux pas when you say the sort of things he has. The reason the media is waiting for him to do it is because he's such a consistent performer!

Wow what a crook! Siphoning off money donated for victims of war in lebanon? If the allegations by lebanese Muslim Association are true then this man needs to be investigated by AFP. I never for once trusted islamic charity except red cross affiliated red crescent. If you dig deeper and deeper they all seems to have some ties somehow with some terrorist organization or some extremist cleric in the middle east. A lot of charities are closed in USA, Canada and europe for having links with extremist groups in the mid east.
