My computer will not shut down. (1 Viewer)

system specs:

OS: Win XP home
RAM: 256MB
Processor: 2.6Ghz P4

recently installed programs/applications:

- Win XP service pack 2
- all the recent windows updates.


NOW problem is my computer won't shut down anymore. it just stays on the screen that says 'Saving your settings...' and then it freezes, it doesn't finish the shut down procedure.

and i don't wanna go back to the previous system restore because i just did a hell of a lot of downloading with those windows updates.

please help.

Cut the power this will force the computer to shut down. Plug it in again reboot try shutting down again - does this help?
