Hi,

recently my school formed eng ext 1 classes based on preferential voting. I got my second preference and the whole yeargroup either got their first or second choice. I wanted to do postmodernism and got into revenge tragedy. I need postmodernism for my ext2 major piece. My school doesn't really want to cooperate because the pomo class is already larger then the others and there are 5-6 others that want pomo aswell. Can I do anything about it or should I just stfu lol?

replies would be great:)

cheers.

It's your HSC, you should be able to do what you want, if they are holding you back from doing what you wish, complain to everyone that will listen. I wouldn't just sit back and take it, so definently dont stfu, do something about it!

Whinge, whinge, whinge, bitch, complain & whinge till you get what you want :)

Well, I'm suprised they even let you guys take a vote. Are either of you aware that in basically every other instance, students get zero say in which module they're going to study? At least you got your second choice. <insert story about how not everyone can get their first choice, blahblah>

Oh, and you can still research postmodernism outside of school for your EE2 piece. It's not as if what you can do is limited to your EE1 module... otherwise it wouldn't be a separate Creative Writing unit.

STFU indeed. At least they asked you how you'd like to be tortured. My school teaches Crime Fiction exclusively, so the next time you're crying over revenge tragedy, start reading Anil's Ghost until you care even less about Sri Lanka. It subverts the conveeeeeentions.... Fecking exti.

Yeah most people don't get a choice.

Revenge tragedy is not so bad. If you need it for ext 2 - just get notes of other people in the class. And in your report/reflection you can always just SAY you did postmodernism for ee1...

We didn't get a choice at all. You will probably just have to go with it.

i agree it's extremely annoying but yeah, we got stuck with the individual and society, no say in it at all. i reckon it's pretty good that you got a choice in the first place.
anyway, for my ext2 major work i research pomo a LOT too, and i guess it would have been helpful if we'd studied it in ext1 but at the same time, i used lots of stuff from my ext1 elective along with pomo techniques. you may think you're not going to use the ext1 elective but it'll open your mind to many new things and that can only be good! plus you form an individual response to pomo if you do independent research, itll work for you
having said that, im no stranger to whining to the school and often they get fed up and cave in, so if you really want it, give it a shot! ;)

I posted this on another thread - I think how well you do in english ext 1 seriosuly depends on your interest in the subject. If you really think that you'd do better in Pomo and hate the revenge-tragedy then whinge and complain until you get into it.

If this is just about extension 2, then just deal. Eex2 requires you to do independent investigation anyway (so you can write all about the research in your report and reflection statement and stick stuff in your journal) and if you're worried about the links you'll need to show between ext 1 and ext 2 - believe me, you'll find them. My major work was as postmodern as they come, but I found I could make heaps of links between it and my Ind + Soc elective, if only in terms of the concept. I don't know anything about genre, but you'll definetly be able to find stuff about ext 1 i.e. "broadening your mind to challenge story conventions via postmodernist techniiques". If anything, its might be better you don't do postmodenrism, otherwise you'll lose yourself in creating a postmodenist story according to what you know in-depthly about its various constructs and the work won't evolve naturally.

LOL. There was a coup in our yeargroup. The school formed another pomo class - haha I barely had to do anything. Other people's parents just rang and raged and in the end the HOD crumbled. Looking back, I think I wouldn't have minded revenge but pomo for the win:D

lol... you're lucky you even got to vote at all.
our school is based on what the teachers specialise in... my teacher usually teaches pomo, so we had to do that - no choice, no vote... so yes... stfu =P
