naming alkanols (1 Viewer)

So my teacher told me that the way to name alkanols changed around 2 years ago and now instead of 2-pentanol we HAVE to write it as pentan-2-ol or we lose marks. Is that true or can we still write it any way?

Whilst the IUPAC name did get changed (for reasons not even my chemistry teacher knew), I'm pretty sure we agreed both notations were acceptable.

(However I slowly adapted into the new version)
