hey ordinarily i would post this in the industrial chem thread but it seems a bit dead at the moment.. so anyways, whats the difference between:

outline the steps in the industrial production of sodium hydroxide from sodium chloride solution and describe the reaction in terms of net ionic and full formulae equations

and...

distinguish between the three electrolysis methods used to extract sodium hydroxide:
– mercury process
– diaphragm process
– membrane process
by describing each process and analysing the technical and environmental difficulties involved in each process


do we choose a particular method from the second one to write in the first one? or is there something totally different that im missing =S

It is exactly what it says. A complete understanding would obviously encompass both these.

Point one means extensively knowing one way they do it, including everything from start to finish.

Point two means knowing the fundamental differences between the three processes.

If you look at the elective exam papers of the last X years you will probably notice a trend, and also will be able to see exactly the info they require for this dot point.
