I used to know the answer to this question but now i forgot :(
"why is sodium hydroxide not used as a primary standard?"
i know it might be a stupid question but it has come up and im curious about the answer....:p

water can evaporate making the concentration higher...
making the pH higher
Carbon dioxide can dissolve into it making the pH lower

NaOH absorbs moisture from the air and reacts with carbon dioxide, whereas anhydrous sodium carbonate does not, but you still need to dessicate it.
