Naturally occuring acids and bases? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone
Im having a problem with the dot point that states:

Identify data, gather and process information from secondary sources to identify examples of naturally occuring acids and bases and their chemical composition.

ANy help would be much appreciated. THanks guys.

There was a topic on this awhile ago.

Naturally occuring acids come a dime a dozen and include:

Sulfuric Acid (H₂SO₄)
Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)
Nitric Acid (HNO₃)
Acetic Acid (CH₃COOH)
Citric Acid (Not a chance in hell of me remembering this formula)
And various other acids.

Naturally occuring bases:
Ash (forms a basic solution)
Ammonia (in such small quantities that it probably isnt worth doing)
Semen
etc.

btw, xayma... only 4 are considered to be enough in quantity to be considered as naturally occuring...

acetic, citric, HCl, and ascorbic acid...
others are in alot little quantity, and usually (at least by conquerin chem) not considered as naturally occuring...

2-hyrdroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid Its easy to remember the name if you know what it looks like. I did a past paper and one of the questions asked to draw the structure of citric acid for a mark. Thats how I learnt it

oh yeah Carbonic acid as well, umm H₂SO₃, H₃O

What Nitric acid is formed from lightning (NO₂ +H₂O) and rain (which normally goes together)

Carbonic acid is formed from fishies and H₂SO₄ is formed from the gas given off by an onion.

Lactic acid is formed inside muscles.
Petic Acid is found in some ripe fruit/vegetables
Tartic acid is inside grapes
Tannic acid inside tea
Pyruvic acid inside muscles when sugars are processed which may then turn into lactic
Nicotanic Acid is Vitamin B

There are many naturally occuring acids, of course dont put all of them down unless you want to explain where each one naturally forms (ie dont waste your time)

You need to know citric acid formula for the HSC.
