Heys : ), I just got half yearly results and 1st term assessment and I'm just wondering what UAI I could be lookin for..

Maths ( 2unit ) = rank 45/120 / mark 63%
IPT = rank 15/60 / mark 71%
Biology = rank 29/178
Ancient History = I havent got it yet, but I am pretty sure I'm in the top 10 - 15 out of 100 people.
English as Second Language = Top 5 out of 40 people / mark 85%

and.. today I went to our school careers advisor and he told me that with this kind of marks I am mostly to get 70 uai. I felt down because in these past few months I've been workin really hard. Oh well, I'm gna start doing my homework now cyas!

your ranks aernt that flash, but theyre not really that bad either
you still have time to improve from now to the HSC, so do well in your upcoming assessments, and im sure youll get over 70

Your subject choices, and ranks, aren't terrible.

Three things that could make it low...

1.) Your school is REALLY low-performing.
2.) Those subjects are only taken by the really low-performing people in your school
3.) ESL = not good scaling, and the others are equally not great scalers, but arent a shitload of marks down (e.g. IPT, BIO)

I know ei, my subjects dont scale that high.. I remember back then during year 11, I didnt take schooling seriously and I kept changing subjects so I can get the easy subjects hence choosing ancient history and IPT.. =/. To be honest, I hate IPT and ancient history but I've got no choice now I dont want to do year 11 again ( actually I've thought about it ).

Oh and another question, What kind of ranks will guarantee a UAI of 90? thanks =]

nothings guarenteed...not even if you come 1st in everything, but the higher the rank, the better chance of getting a 90+ UAI

the ranks needed for 90+ really depend on the cohort of the school....if you go to james ruse for example, id say 75% get 90+?
but for an average school, youll probably need top 5 or top 10, depeding on the size to have any real chance of 90+ UAI

Haha, it said on James Ruse's website that in 2005 the mean UAI was 99.25 ...so yeah I think more than 75% probably attain a UAI greater than 90.

I'm pretty sure that's the median not the mean, the mean would be lower as you get random low UAI's at JR

I can tell that your school does not have many bright people also doing ESL will not give you any good marks even if you go good in it. However you might get 70 plus UAI .....
